Plagiarism and Publication Ethics Statement
The African Journal of AIDS and HIV Research is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics, research integrity, and scientific excellence. The journal provides a platform for the publication of high-quality research on HIV/AIDS, infectious diseases, virology, immunology, public health, epidemiology, prevention strategies, clinical care, and related biomedical sciences. Authors, reviewers, editors, and editorial staff are expected to uphold internationally recognized principles of ethical publishing to ensure the credibility, transparency, and reliability of the scientific record.
Authors must submit manuscripts that are original, scientifically sound, and not under consideration for publication elsewhere. All ideas, text, figures, tables, images, datasets, and previously published materials must be appropriately acknowledged through accurate citation and referencing. The journal has a zero-tolerance policy toward plagiarism, self-plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, data falsification, inappropriate image manipulation, and any other form of research or publication misconduct. Manuscripts found to violate these ethical standards may be rejected during editorial evaluation or, if published, may be corrected, retracted, or otherwise addressed following a thorough editorial investigation.
Research involving human participants must be conducted in accordance with internationally recognized ethical principles and applicable institutional, national, and regulatory requirements. Authors should obtain approval from an appropriate Institutional Review Board (IRB) or Ethics Committee before commencing the study whenever required and confirm that informed consent has been obtained from all participants or their legally authorized representatives. Research involving individuals living with HIV/AIDS requires particular attention to confidentiality, privacy, informed consent, and the protection of participants from stigma and discrimination. Identifiable personal information should only be published with explicit written consent.
Studies involving animals must comply with recognized ethical standards governing the humane care and use of laboratory animals. Authors should provide details of the relevant ethical approvals and describe the measures taken to ensure animal welfare and minimize unnecessary suffering.
The journal requires complete disclosure of all sources of funding, financial support, and any actual or potential conflicts of interest that could influence the design, conduct, analysis, interpretation, or reporting of the research. Individual author contributions should be clearly described to promote transparency and accountability. Authors are encouraged to retain original research data and, where appropriate, make supporting datasets available to facilitate verification, reproducibility, and further scientific investigation.
Editors are responsible for ensuring a fair, impartial, confidential, and timely editorial process. Manuscripts are evaluated solely on the basis of scientific merit, originality, methodological quality, ethical compliance, and relevance to the journal's scope. Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and confidential evaluations while declaring any conflicts of interest that could affect their independent judgment.
If concerns regarding publication ethics arise before or after publication, the journal will investigate them promptly, fairly, and confidentially. When necessary, appropriate editorial actions—including corrections, expressions of concern, or article retractions—will be implemented to preserve the integrity, accuracy, and reliability of the published scientific record.
