African Journal of AIDS and HIV Research, published by KevinPage, is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal dedicated to HIV and AIDS research with a specific focus on the African context — epidemiology, prevention, treatment, and the social and health-system factors that shape the epidemic across the continent. We publish original research, clinical studies, and critical reviews that engage directly with the realities of HIV care and prevention in African settings.

We exist because HIV/AIDS research generated in and for African contexts deserves a dedicated venue, not just a subsection of broader global infectious disease journals. Local epidemiology, healthcare infrastructure, and social determinants shape this epidemic differently across regions, and research grounded in that specificity matters.

Scope. We welcome submissions on (but not limited to):

  • HIV epidemiology and surveillance in African populations
  • Antiretroviral therapy access, adherence, and outcomes
  • HIV prevention strategies (PrEP, behavioral interventions, community programs)
  • Mother-to-child transmission prevention
  • HIV/AIDS and co-infections (TB, hepatitis, malaria)
  • Health systems and policy responses to the epidemic
  • Social determinants, stigma, and community-based care
  • HIV vaccine and cure research relevant to African populations

Peer review. Every submission undergoes double-blind peer review by at least two reviewers with relevant subject expertise. Reviewers with a personal, financial, or institutional connection to a submitted manuscript are recused from the process.

Open access. All articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY 4.0) license, with no subscription or paywall for readers, and no fee charged to authors for publication.

Publication ethics. The journal follows COPE guidelines on authorship, data integrity, plagiarism, and conflicts of interest. All human subjects research must confirm ethics committee/IRB approval and documented informed consent.

Who we are. Edited by a board of active researchers and clinicians working in HIV/AIDS medicine, epidemiology, and public health across Africa. Published by KevinPage.
